On Saturday, April 26, at the Flute Academy in Pittsburgh, PA, the Pittsburgh Flute Club, Inc., hosted its first annual Young Artist Competition for flutists under the age of 25. Eight semifinalists from all over the world (U.S., Korea, Norway, Sweden) competed in the morning round where three finalists were selected. The finalists competed in the afternoon and were awarded cash prizes:

*2008 First place winner ($1000) is Brit Halvorsen, a native of Norway, Fulbright Scholar, and Artist Diploma student at Carnegie Mellon University where she studies with Jeanne Baxtresser and Alberto Almarza.

*2008 Second place winner ($300) is Heather Zinninger, a senior at Eastman School of music and a student of Bonita Boyd.

*2008 Third place winner ($200) is Erin McKibben, a first year masters degree Flute Fellow at the University of Michigan where she studies with Amy Porter.
